Booking carriage and an escort for children

An escort is mandatory for children between 5 and 12 years old when purchasing a ticket for a child to fly unaccompanied. At the request of parents, adoptive parents, legal guardians, or trustees, children up to 16 years of age may be provided with an escort.

Children under 5 years old may fly only when accompanied by an adult passenger.

This service is chargeable and available only on direct flights jointly served with Aeroflot PJSC, and only within the Russian Federation.

If your child is between 5 and 12 years old, they shall be charged at 100% of the adult fare applicable for the relevant route, without a children's discount, or at a special fare for an unaccompanied child. The standard application form and a request for unaccompanied child carriage shall be completed when booking unaccompanied child carriage services.

The buyer of the service shall also guarantee that the child will be met at the airport of destination. The persons seeing the child off shall remain at the airport of departure until the actual departure of the flight. Please inform the company when booking that your child will be traveling unaccompanied.

Escort service rules

The escort service shall be booked at the same time as booking carriage and purchasing an air ticket, only at Aurora Airlines sales offices or at the offices of its service agents. The service may be ordered by legal representatives of the child: parents, adoptive parents, legal guardians, or trustees.

To order the service, the applicant must present documents proving their identity and the relationship of the child and the applicant (birth and adoption certificates; documents confirming the establishment of guardianship or custody).

At the airport of departure

Checking in

Passengers are advised to arrive at the airport well in advance to check in for the flight, check their baggage, and undergo preflight screening.

Please note that children to be escorted by the airline shall only be checked in at the airport check-in counter. They cannot be checked in at self-service check-in kiosks, by cell phone, or online.

The following documents must be presented at check-in:

  • birth certificate or internal Russian passport;
  • a document verifying the identity of the person checking in the child;
  • a completed application and request forms with all the necessary details (names, addresses, phone numbers) of the person checking in or meeting the child;
  • a miscellaneous charges order (MCO) confirming the payment for the escort service.

The following documents shall be present, enclosed in a plastic folder labeled "UM Unaccompanied Child":

  • travel documents, itinerary receipt, boarding pass, baggage receipt;
  • application form and request for the carriage of an unaccompanied child;
  • birth certificate or passport, as well as documents required for passport control.

The folder must be in the child's possession for the entire duration of the trip.

The person checking in the child must stay in the airport until the actual departure of the aircraft.

When a child flies unaccompanied, baggage allowances apply according to the travel class and fare conditions.

An identification tag with contact information shall be affixed to baggage to be checked in. The child should have as few items as possible to be taken on board the aircraft as carry-on baggage.

Special attention should be paid to the child's baggage so as to ensure it does not contain any prohibited items.

After landing, the child will be handed over by the flight attendant to the ground handling agent. The person meeting the child as specified in the application must be present at the airport at the time of arrival of the flight with a valid photo ID.

The child shall be handed over to the person meeting them upon presentation of an identification document.

Our staff shall assist passengers with disabilities when boarding and disembarking upon arrival

Before purchasing an air ticket, please consult a doctor to find out:

  • whether the flight is medically permissible;
  • what safety precautions should be taken;
  • whether an in-flight escort is needed.

When booking and purchasing air tickets, tell us what special services and assistance you will need during the flight. We shall not ask for specific information about your disability; however, the more information you provide to our staff when planning your trip, the better help we can offer. Our staff will answer your questions and explain to you any procedures that you need to be aware of. Please inform us whether you will be taking your wheelchair (providing details such as its size; whether it is folding or not; whether it has a battery; the type of battery), crutches, or a guide dog.

Carriage of passengers with developmental disabilities is provided only on presentation by the passenger of a medical certificate stating their need for an escort. Transportation of such a passenger shall be agreed in advance with the carrier and confirmed immediately before departure. Passengers in this category shall be checked in at the airport's medical facility accompanied by an airport doctor/employee or airline employee: at the airport of departure, from check-in until boarding; at the airport of destination, from the aircraft until handing over to the person meeting them at the airport.
